Logo & artwork guidelines
Is your artwork in the right format for print?
When placing your order please bear the following in mind.
Preferred artwork format
- 'Illustrator EPS’ file (this is an industry-standard format which should be available from your marketing department).
- Advise your marketing department that we use Adobe Illustrator CS4 software.
- All relevant Pantone colours should be included with the files.
- Ensure any text in the EPS file is 'outlined', as we may not have the correct font(s) on file.
Cannot locate an Illustrator EPS file?
- On items with full colour digital print, we may be able to use a high-resolution jpg file (depending on how complex the logo is).
- If the quality is not good enough, our studio may have to re-draw your logo in the correct format. This may incur a charge, dependent on the amount of time it takes.
- Please supply Pantone references, as a jpg image does not contain these. This isn't a problem if printing in full colour.
Print Colours
As standard, all products on this website have been costed including a 1 colour print. Some products as standard already come with full colour digital print, see product descriptions for details.
When considering print colours, we would always recommend that if looking to order a light coloured product, go for a dark print (eg. black or navy). If ordering a product in a dark shade go for a light print (eg. white) to ensure your logo and details are clearly visible.
I you require a product to be printed in more than 1 colour, contact us for pricing.
Print Areas
Each product has a specific print area. This area is the maximum size available on the promotional item you are looking to order.
On certain products such as pens, the print areas are quite restricted (eg 15mm x 15mm).
Ensure you take the print area into consideration:
- Too much text can look confusing and key messages can be lost.
- Logos can often be quite large/complex, and take up all the print area available.
Our designers will always make recommendations and suggestions if they feel there may be a problem with a print area.
Proofs
When your order reaches our design studio, an electronic 'proof' is produced for each item and sent to you via email. The 'proof' is a visual of your chosen product, with the logo/text in place.
If you wish to make any changes to the artwork, this is the time to do it. If necessary, you can liaise with our designers to discuss any changes you may wish to make.
Please remember…
All delivery lead times are from receipt of approved artwork. We do not put any product into production until we receive your signed & faxed proof.
Once we receive your signed approval, the product then goes into production and cancellation of your order at this stage will incur costs.
Important notes
- Please note that Microsoft Word / Publisher files are generally NOT acceptable for print purposes. They always require some re-drawing on our part.
- As Local Authorities have very strict brand guidelines on how their logos can and cannot be reproduced, we would not be allowed to ‘re-draw’ their logo. This has to be supplied to us in the correct format mentioned above (Illustrator EPS).
- Should you wish to include a child’s drawing or some piece of artwork in a design, please supply us with the original drawing. We can then scan the document and manipulate accordingly. Otherwise the above formats apply.
- Any photographs to be used in artwork MUST be of a high quality, taken using a good quality digital camera (4 mega-pixel upwards). If you have conventional (film) photos, we need the original prints or preferably negatives.
We trust you have found this information of interest. Should you have any further queries on supplying artwork please contact tprescott@silk-group.com
